Ek'Balam - Mayan Ruins & Cenote

Mural at the entry of Ek Balam archeological site

The archaeological site of Ek'Balam is located within the municipality of Temozón, Yucatán,  and 28 km north of the Magic Town of Valladolid (33 min by car). It is open  everyday from 08 am to 5pm.

Beware of the "parking" fee of $100 mxn that you are forced to pay by the ejidal people in order for you to be allowed to cross the area and have access to the road that will take you to the pyramids and cenote site.

There are different costs for the pyramid entry depending if you are Mexican, from Yucatán or foreign; and if you visit on Sunday´s the entry is free for Mexicans. (ID needed).

At the site you can also find a cenote where you can swim, bikes to ride to the cenote, a place to  eat, representation of Mayan houses, and some Mayan natives with whom you can do a cleansing ritual, all of these for an extra cost, and of course some souvenirs!

When in Ek'Balam remember to be respectful of the place that you are visiting and the history that it represents. This archaeological site is one of the few that still allows people to climb the pyramids and enjoy the views of the surroundings, so if we want to keep it that way, we should all be mindful of the area and the opportunity given.

Don´t forget your sunscreen, hat, mosquito repellent and your reusable bottle of water to keep yourself hydrated and protected!.

Visit our gallery for more pictures of the site.
